Terminus Group Chief Scientist and President of Terminus International honored with Mohammed bin Rashid Medal for Scientific Distinguishment

Recently, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, honored the fourth edition of the Mohammed bin Rashid Medal for Scientific Distinguishment, which is the highest scientific recognition in the UAE, to Dr. Ling Shao, Chief Scientist of Terminus Group and President of Terminus International.


The Mohammed bin Rashid Medal for Scientific distinguishment is an initiative launched by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid to recognize distinguished scientists, researchers and establishments that have made exceptional contributions to scientific research. The award is designed to showcase the recipients' invaluable contributions to society and their pivotal role in shaping the future through innovation and scientific research. Additionally, the award aims to foster an enabling environment that promotes and encourages scientific research, thus facilitating the growth and advancement of the field.


Dr. Ling Shao, an IEEE Fellow and internationally renowned scientist in the field of artificial intelligence, joined Terminus Group in 2022, and is responsible for overseeing the company’s AI R&D, as well as being president of Terminus International. In the latter role, Dr. Shao is responsible for leading the expansion of the company's global business, following the establishment of the company’s first MENA HQ, in the Expo City, Dubai and the official premier partnership with Expo 2020.


With over 500 scientific papers published, Dr. Shao is also a Fellow of the International Association for Pattern Recognition, the British Computer Society, and IET. Previously, he has served as CTO and Chief Scientist of the National Center for Artificial Intelligence (NCAI), the Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA). From 2018 to 2021, he was the founding CEO and Chief Scientist of the UAE's Inception Institute of Artificial Intelligence (IIAI). Dr. Shao is also the initiator of the world's first AI university - Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, for which he served as its founding Provost and Executive Vice President.


For the last five consecutive years, Dr. Shao has also been selected as a "highly cited researcher" by the Web of Science (Clarivate); His publications have been cited more than 44,000 times in Google Scholar, with many of his research findings applied to the fields of intelligent transportation, assistive/autonomous driving, intelligent interaction, robotics and more.


As the lead on the company's international expansion, Dr. Shao has also played a pivotal role in the recent triumphs of the organization and overseen recent business successes including becoming the preferred technology partner of Zimbabwe International Airport, in Harare, as well as two cooperative agreements with partners in Singapore to promote the development of sustainable digitalization.
