Terminus Group Chief Scientists recognized World's Top 2% Scientists

Stanford University and Elsevier published the latest list of World's Top 2% Scientists. The list consists of a career-long impact list and a single-year performance list. 3 scientists from Terminus Group, the global smart services and AIoT solutions provider, were included on both of the lists. Dr. Xian-Sheng HUA, Dr. Ling SHAO, and Dr. Yang YANG from Terminus Group have been included within this year's list, and for 4 consecutive years since 2019.

 

Recently, Professor John P.A. Loannidis' team at Stanford University and Mendeley Data of Elsevier released their list of the World's Top 2% Scientists. Selected from more than 8.5 million scientists worldwide, the list is not intended to be a ranking of scholars, but rather an exploration of the status of scientific research from the perspective of scientist. Inclusion in the list means that the scholar has a high global influence in his or her research field.

 

This list is a measure of scientists' long-term scientific performance in the hope of reflecting their impact more objectively and realistically. It is based on the Scopus database and scored using metrics for six key factors: 1) citations; 2) HirschH-index; 3) co-authorship adjusted Hm-index; 4) independent authorship; 5) independent or first authorship; and 6) citations to papers in different authorship positions.

 

Dr. Xian-Sheng HUA is now the CTO of Terminus Group. Before that, he has appeared on the list of 'Innovators Under 35' by the MIT Technology Review. Additionally, Dr. HUA has served as the director of the City Brain Lab, AI Center of Damo Academy, the vice-president and senior researcher of Alibaba Group, and was responsible for technology research and development and application in the field of visual intelligent computing on the cloud. Dr. HUA and his team promoted several provincial and municipal-level implementations of national projects in Hangzhou, Beijing, Suzhou, Shanghai, Chengdu, among others.

Dr. HUA pointed out that today's AIoT technology is being used to enhance people's living standard, convenience, and skill sets, as well as improving urban smart management and sustainable environment, and this is what Terminus Group always valued, as we are into the future world of AI and 4IR (Fourth Industrial Revolution).

 

Dr. Ling SHAO is an internationally renowned scientist in the field of AI. He is the Chief Scientist of AI of Terminus Group, responsible for overseeing Terminus Group's AI R&D, as well as being president of Terminus International. Previously, Dr. SHAO has served as CTO and Chief Scientist of the National Center for Artificial Intelligence (NCAI), the Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA). From 2018 to 2021, he was the founding CEO and Chief Scientist of the UAE's Inception Institute of Artificial Intelligence (IIAI). Dr. SHAO is also the initiator of the world's first AI university - Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence. For five consecutive years, between 2018 and 2022, Dr. SHAO was selected as a “highly cited researcher" by the Web of Science.

According to Dr. SHAO, AI solutions require a lot of customization and they are not scalable; however, large pre-trained models can now, in part, solve this problem, with research advancement - in designing relatively smaller pre-trained models and efficient model compression techniques - helping to accelerate AI profitability.

 

Dr. Yang YANG is the Chief Scientist of IoT of Terminus Group. He is a Professor with the IoT Thrust. His research interests include multi-tier computing networks, 5G/6G systems, AIoT technologies, intelligent services and applications, and advanced wireless testbeds. Dr. YANG is the Associate Vice-President for Teaching and Learning, and the Acting Dean of College of Education Sciences at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou). He is serving the IEEE Communications Society as the Chair for 5G Industry Community and Chair for Asia Region at Fog/Edge Industry Community. He has been the Chair of the Steering Committee of Asia-Pacific Conference on Communications (APCC) from 2019 to 2021. Previously, Dr. YANG held faculty positions at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Brunel University, University College London (UCL), CAS-SIMIT, and ShanghaiTech University.
